Episode 3: Stop the Silence in Healthcare

In this Episode I discuss what I feel is the first step in changing culture in healthcare.  I call it the Dos and Taboos list.  I have spent a great amount of time studying Edgar Schein on organizational culture.  I would strongly suggest reading any of his books if this is a topic that interests you.  Anyway he refers to assumptions in an organization that shape the culture.  These assumptions are exemplified by what he calls artifacts ( behaviors).  The Dos and Taboos list are those behaviors that need to be promoted (Dos) and those that should be prohibited (Taboos).  Examining assumptions and developing a Dos and taboos list are critical first steps in changing any culture.
